Ignore SMS about Earthquakes

Messages have been circulating about an earthquake hitting the Philippines coming from the U.S. Geological Society in Hawaii.

First of all, there is no U.S. Geological Society. The organization is called the U.S. Geological Survey.

Lastly, the U.S. Geological Survey has only their headquarters located in Reston, Virginia. Why the hell would a state office of the USGS in Hawaii issue a statement when it should have come from headquarters?

Although 2 earthquakes hit the Philippines this morning, it was relatively light compared to what happened in China. If indeed it would be that strong, the USGS statement (if they made any) should’ve already hit the internet hours ago.
