Telcos should start focusing on the top of the pyramid and bring in the iPhone
Let’s face it. Telcos are focusing too much on the bottom of the pyramid. Let me give a scenario on why they should be focusing on the top of the pyramid.
There are approximately 88 million people in the Philippines. I am a mobile user with a monthly bill of approximately 2.5k a month. That’s about 30k a year on calls and text alone.
Here comes the iPhone whose user base in the US is generally internet savvy and data hungry that’s why AT&T offered unlimited data plans.
If 4 million people spend 3k pesos on data, calls and text, that’s about 120 billion pesos in sales every month.
Whereas they get 20 million unlimitxt (600 pesos/day) subscribers everyday and earn the same amount each month, but have no consistency/loyalty. Most especially when the poor are always the ones suffering more and have to shift their spending constantly.
